What is e-Learning?

The UK government Department for Education and Skills, defines e-learning thus:

“If someone is learning in a way that uses information and communication technologies (ICTs), they are doing e-learning.”

The concept of e-learning has been with us for many years. e-Learning is usually considered to be a derivative of computer based training (CBT) and is learning that takes place via a network, usually over the internet or a company intranet. Recently, e-learning has evolved into a tool widely used in both the corporate and academic worlds.

With e-learning, companies are discovering the benefits, for example:

  • Training the sales teams to sell new products, quickly and efficiently, even if offices are in remote locations
  • Incentivising resellers to understand and most effectively sell your products
